We love maths!

Class 2 is full of mathematicians!

In the classroom you will see maths being taught in fun and engaging ways. The chidren spend time developing their recall of maths facts through their passports and learning to master the year 2 curriculum. The children are developing their resiliance to solving problems and showing their mathematical thinking.

Solving problems and reasoning

During our maths lessons we spend a great amount of time on applying knowledge to solve problems. We are a supportive class that encourages talking to each other about mathematical ideas. Solving problems and showing our reasoning is a regualr feature of our lessons.

Supporting your child at home

We recognise that school is not the only place where children learn. Completing maths tasks at home is valuable for your child's learning and we encourage adults to join in. As well as supporting your child on their maths passports targets you could also try the following:

  • Counting objects
  • sorting objects
  • Telling the time
  • Using and counting coins and working out costs
  • Calcualting change at the shops
  • Measuring ingredients when cooking
  • Learning times tables

Below are some wonderful websites that can support you and your child's learning:

nrich- This website has some wonderful problems that require a lot of thinking. See an adult form the class to find out which problems are the best.
